A coffee machine descaling log: keep the date and machine details

You remember buying descaler, but did you use it last month or earlier in the year? A coffee machine descaling log gives you a completed date to check, plus the machine and product details you need when you do it again.

Use Last Time to record the work after you finish it. The counter shows how long it has been, and the history keeps the earlier descales so you can look back at the gaps between them.

Keep descaling separate from everyday cleaning

“Clean coffee machine” can mean wiping the outside, cleaning a milk system or running a descaling procedure. Those jobs answer different questions.

Create an event called “Descale kitchen coffee machine”. If you have a second machine, include its location or model in another event. Add separate cleaning events only for jobs whose dates you want to remember independently.

What to put in a descaling record

Detail Example of what to save
Machine Model name, so you can find the correct instructions
Completed date The day the descaling procedure finished
Product The descaler specified for your machine
Trigger Machine alert, manual guidance or another reason you checked
Water Water hardness setting, if your machine uses one
Outcome Procedure completed; any issue to follow up

The table is a log template, not a set of descaling instructions. Keep the manufacturer’s procedure available and follow it for your model.

How often should you descale?

There is no single interval that suits every coffee machine. Nespresso’s support guidance explains that usage and water hardness affect descaling frequency and points owners to machine alerts and the relevant manual.

Copy your model’s guidance into the event note. If the machine signals that descaling is due, use that information even if your log shows a shorter gap than last time. The average gap in a history describes your past descales; it does not determine when the machine needs the next one.

Build the history as you finish each job

  1. Add “Descale kitchen coffee machine” to Last Time.
  2. Enter the actual completed date. Use a previous record if you know the last date.
  3. Add the model, descaler and any useful observations to that history entry’s note.
  4. Mark it done after the next completed descale.

For example, a note might read: “Completed after machine alert. Used the kit listed in the manual. Full procedure finished.” This gives a future entry more context than a bare checkmark.

If a procedure was interrupted, record what remains to be done rather than treating it as a completed descale. You can update the event when the work is finished.

Track filter changes independently

A water filter change and a descale are separate events even when they happen on the same afternoon. Keep a water filter replacement log if you want to remember the cartridge date too. A home maintenance log can bring these appliance records into the same folder without combining their counters.
